Introduction

Ah, Alaska… a.k.a. the land of the midnight sun. This is where wilderness gets its name: magnificent mountains, lakes that reflect the sky itself, and ice-blue glaciers that might as well glow in the dark. Alaska is where you find wildlife and natural wonders all begging for your attention, because it is probably one of the most untouched places in the States. You will get to try your hand at hiking a glacier, and even a wildlife cruise in the Kenai Fjords National Park!

  • A bus pass to spend two days in awe of Denali National Park
  • A guided wildlife viewing cruise at the Kenai Peninsula
  • Alaskan Glaciers. Nuff said.

Trip Notes

DAY 1-2: ANCHORAGE & WRANGELL-ST. ELIAS NATIONAL PARK

Are you ready?? ARE YOU READY?? Your tour starts right here, right now, and we don’t wait around for city folk as we hit the ground running at Wrangell-St Elias National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park hosts the continent’s largest assembly of glaciers that have peaks above 16,000ft. We really do not give you a breather as we immediately head in to Root Glacier for a bit of hiking. If you are feeling adventurous already, why not attempt some ice climbing? We spend the night here at a wilderness camp with a view of the glacier… it really doesn’t get any better than this for a first day!

 Accommodation: Camping included

 DAY 3: TANGLE LAKES

Our second destination is Tangle Lakes- It’s actually a really nice place to chill after being unable to stop staring out the window at all the rolling, grand scenery. As you drive along the Alaskan mountain range, you even cross the ever-famous 800-mile-long Alaskan Pipeline. If you really are the adrenaline junkie you say you are, you can try out some wilderness canoeing. That will get your heart pumping!

 Accommodation: Camping included

 DAY 4-6: DENALI NATIONAL PARK

We stop at Gracious House on the way to Denali. If you don’t already know what it is, you’ll wish you’d known about it all your life! Two words: cinnamon rolls. The tallest mountains of North America surround Denali Park and they’ve got so many wild animals as well that the only way we can safely get around is by bus! Good thing we’ve got a two-day pass to get us through this terrible ordeal of leaving the wild to, you know, be wild and not contaminated by humans! Rangers here are awesome and helpful, and even allow you to try your hand at guiding and animal spotting! Make sure your camera is charged for this bit as there is so much to see! A dog sled demonstration will be sure to give you a taste of what it is like up here! If you want to, you can even choose to do a scenic flight over the park - talk about a different perspective!

Accommodation: Camping included

DAY 7-9: SEWARD

We follow the Cook Inlet to pass through Resurrection Bay and find the coastal town of Seward. This area is known for some epic views of the bay and even the mountain scenery will continue to amaze. As part of the tour, we’re going to get on a cruise ship and see this famous Alaskan scenery from a different perspective - from the water of course! Hopefully you will spot a few whales as well, even sea otters! One thing you will want is sound recording equipment for is the groaning sounds glaciers make and the immense crashes of bits of glacier falling into the water… that’s something that will haunt you!

Accommodation: Camping included

DAY 10-11: HOMER

Are you ready to try your hand at preparing fresh fish? There is a glacier-crafted spit here on the Kenai Peninsula, obviously learning how to prepare a fish is a life skill. Don’t worry if you have never tried it before though, your tour leader is here to help. If you didn’t already know, Homer is famous for its wildlife and bears. There is even a tour especially made for bear viewing! There is lots more to do here as well so don’t be afraid that you might not have anything to do, this place is as beautiful as it is exciting!

Accommodation: Camping included

DAY 12: KENAI NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

We head to the other side of the peninsula today, and you will not even have words, your jaw will only drop. Because dang. The refuge is 150-million acres of land and water, home to North America’s most famous wildlife. There are outdoor activities galore: fishing, canoeing, hiking… or maybe just finding a pine-enclosed lake and relaxing lakeside. Count how many moose there are around you, and see if you can spot eagles flying high!

Accommodation: Camping included

DAY 13: ANCHORAGE

Sadly, today is the last day. We have to make our way back to civilisation. But hey, you’ve seen some pretty epic places! Hopefully you will have a new appreciation for nature and all the beauty and majesty it holds.

ITINERARY NOTES:

We will pass through some rugged terrain and very isolated areas- campgrounds will have basic facilities and there will be very little nightlife for you to experience.

Friendly Advice: Our tour ends at the gateway hotel at about 17:00, but we recommend you don’t book any flights departing before 21:00. We can also help you book post-tour accommodation if you like!

Reviews

Best Experience of My Life!!

"We had the most exceptional time trekking around Alaska! From ice climbing glaciers, to whale watching, bear viewing, white water rafting and so much more!! Everything we did and everywhere we went was absolutely incredible! The views and the wildlife are amazing enough on their own! We got to stay at some great destinations and really truly experience Alaska to the full! We even had snow one day!! Even though it rains there, it is usually only in the afternoon and was not enough to stop us from our adventures! Could not have picked a better trek! Our leader Alex was amazing and looked after us so well! Already booking my next trek!! I recommend the Alaskan Wonder to everyone!! Take the plunge and do it!! :)" Emily, July 2015

'If you wanna see Alaska, You gotta do Alaska'

"'If you wanna see Alaska, You gotta do Alaska' was the advice given to us on day one of the Alaskan Wonder by our awesome trek leader Tommy. And he was right. From wilderness camping in front of a glacier to ice climbing this trek showcases the best of Alaska. And definitely takes you out of your comfort zone. Every day was filled with memorable adventures and sights mixed in with an awesome group of people. Sure the fact that you have to rough it a little bit might seem hard at first but given where you are and the things you are doing it certainly makes up for it. I would definitely recommend this trek to anyone especially those who want to experience nature at its best. Plus you get off the beaten track literally (some bumping roads that made for some good laughs) where most tourists don't ever go which made it even more unique. It was a truly unforgettable trek and honestly t he best holiday ever." Courtney, August 2015

Absolutely Amazing!

"I chose this trip mainly because of the wildlife and it did not disappoint! We saw loads of bears; grizzly coastal brown and black. Caribou, Moose, Sea Otters, Bald Eagles, Salmon, Puffins, Porpoises, Dolphins, Humpback Whale... The scenery is amazing too and I did so many things like flying in a helicopter, walking on a glacier, husky dog sledding, bear watching, flying in a Cessna plane." Steph, September 2014
