Day 2: Zanzibar Excursion
Take in the gorgeous sandy beaches of Zanzibar, or go exploring- you can scuba dive, snorkel, or even take in a sunset boat cruise through the clear blue waters- take the day to relax!
Day 03: Zanzibar Excursion
Today, we head to Stone Town, in the south of the Island, and also the capital of Zanzibar. We spend the night here, and take some time to explore the historical sights and unique architecture the city has to offer. There’s an amazing spice market we just have to try out, and the spectacular seafood markets.
Included Activity: Spice Tour and City Tour
Day 04: Dar es Salaam – Bagamoyo
Early this morning, we catch a ferry back to Dar Es Salaam and start our tour on truck. The next destination, Bagamovo, isn’t far. The name Bagamovo, or ‘lay down your heart’, goes back to the slavery days. Our overnight camping spot is on the beach- so take the afternoon enjoy the waters of the Indian Ocean. The town is also only a short walk away, so why not take a gander downtown to take in a bit of the local culture.
Day 05: Arusha
Arusha is surrounded by some of the African continent’s most famous landscapes and national parks. Sitting just below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley, the city is close to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, arangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro and The Arusha National Park. We’re going to get here and prepare for our journey into the Serengeti!
Day 06: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion
The next few days are made for the 3-night optional camping excursion into Serengeti national Park and also Ngorongoro Crater. In one of the most densely inhabited large animal populations in Africa, the Serengeti excursion is sure to delight those in search of the Big 5. In open topped 4x4 vehicles, we leave early in the morning to drive to the Serengeti!
The campsites that we visit over the next few days are owned by the Tanzania National Parks Board, and over 90,000 tourists visit the park annually. Sadly, the facilities are not sufficiently maintained. For this reason, we hope that you are fully prepared for simple facilities, and recommend that you bring your own wet wipes and toilet paper.
For those not taking part in the Serengeti Excursion, you will remain at the accommodation in Arusha. Use this time to absorb the fascinating local culture. There are plenty of optional activities to be booked here- Serengeti & Ngorongoro Excursion Packages, game drives at Lake Manyara, day hiking & village tours, and other things.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Activity Package: Serengeti 4-day camping Excursion (min 4 people)
Optional Activities: Ballooning over Serengeti National Park
Day 07: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion
The whole day is spent driving through the Serengeti, and our route is dependent on the movement of the game, and also of sightings made by other rangers!
Day 08: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion
After another game drive in the Serengeti, we make our way to the Ngorongoro Crater. We drive down to the bottom of the Crater, and of course, along the way, look for as many animal sightings we can gather!
Day 09: Arusha
Our group is reunited in Arusha today, and we have a day to catch up with everyone about what we’ve been up to the last few days!
Day 10: Nairobi
We cross the border into Kenya today, and travel onwards to Nairobi! Originally founded by the British in 1899 to act as a rail depot, the town rapidly grew to become the capital of British East Africa, and also became the capital of Kenya in 1963. Normally, we have a group meal together at one of Nairobi’s various restaurants.
Optional Activities: Dinner Out in Nairobi
Day 11: Masai Mara National Reserve
We leave the Kenyan capital behind to travel towards the Masai Mara! Known for its endless plains and host to countless nature shows, we get to see the wild animals and fantastic views up close and personal. We will be using Masai Mara safari-type vehicles for this part of the trip and not our usual overland truck. To make things simple for you, we’ll get you to pack a small overnight bag to travel with rather than carry all your luggage around!
Tip: You should pack a towel, sleeping bag, clothes, toiletries, and camping essentials.
Included Activities: Masai Village Visit
Day 12: Masai Mara National Reserve
The grasslands of the Masai are great for game viewing, and to stretch out that big camera lens! Animals that you’re likely to see here are: elephants, black rhino, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles. Hippos and crocodiles bathe in the muddy brown waters of the rivers. Get ready for a full day of game driving, feast your eyes!
Day 13: Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru
Early birds catch the worm- and so we do with our final game drive through the Masai Mara before heading to Lake Nakuru National Park. Here, we enjoy an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru NP is actually home to large flocks of flamingos and pelicans as well as black & white rhino. Leopards, lions, and numerous buck. Lake Nakuru was originally created as a bird sanctuary, but was upgraded to a National Park in 1968.
Day 14: Lake Nakuru - Nairobi
It’s another early start today as we bid farewell to beautiful nature and head back to Nairobi. As soon as we’re back, we hit the Nairobi Giraffe Centre, and also fit in one last game drive through Nairobi National Park, where we try and spot our lat black rhino, cheetah, leopard, lion, an maybe a hyena too!
Activity Package: Visit to the Giraffe Centre, Game drive in Nairobi National Park
Optional Activities: Dinner Out In Nairobi
