Trip NotesDay 1
We start our trip off in Melbourne, but hit the road Jack, straight through Torquay, Bells Beach, and Anglesea to check out some local waves (this is the home of Rip Curl and Quicksilver after all!). At Apollo Bay and Lorne we can jump in to the sea for a dip, or just walk around town to find a good cup of coffee. We'll arrive into Otway National Park and walk through some of the oldest rainforest in the world... this really is a beautiful place for a lunch stop! We'll finish off the day with sunset at the Twelve Apostles! We'll be staying in a hostel tonight.
Meals included: Lunch, DinnerDay 2
We start early today with another peek at the Twelve Apostles (this time in the morning light) before the crowds get there... this is going to be heaven for the photo enthusiast! We take in some really spectacular coastal scenery as we continue on our tour, taking in Loch Ard George, London Bridge, and even the Bay of Martyrs! We arrive at Grampians National Park for a spot of lunch and spend the afternoon hiking, saying hello to the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre and taking in some fantastic Aussie wildlife. We'll be staying in the park tonight in a hostel.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 3
We'll hike the northern part of Grampian National Park today, and really appreciate the flora and fauna as well as Aboriginal and European history this part of the park has to offer. We'll gobble up lunch at a great scenic spot. We'll then head of Adelaide in the PM, and arrive into the city in the evening. Here we'll check in to our accommodation for 2 nights.
Meals included: Breakfast, LunchDay 4
We have an amazing day planned today: WINE TASTING!! Yeah!! We'll head through Barossa Valley and of course, spend some time at the Jacob's Creek visitor centre (we even get a little tour!). We'll also go to Kies winery, which is an adorable family-owned winery... the best bit? They exclusively sell their wine from the cellar door, and all the while our loving tour guide prepares our lunch! We'll have a BBQ with Australian meat of epic proportions (don't worry, we also make a mean fresh salad!). We'll visit a couple more wineries today and return to Adelaide by 5pm.
Meals included: LunchDay 5
Today's an early start and we go through one of Australia's oldeset wine regions, Clare Valley. We'll hike up Dutchman's Stern after lunch for some jaw-dropping views of Spencer Gulf. We'll then set up camp for the night and breathe in the redfum trees of Stony Creek.
Meals included: Lunch, DinnerDay 6
This morning we head to Coober Pedy, which is houses about 80% of the world's opal, and the landscape? Well, it looks a lot like mars! We'll of course tour an opal mine and find a joey to make friends with at Josephine's Kangaroo Orphanage. We'll sleep in underground bunkhouse accommodation tonight (just like the locals!)
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 7
Ooh! Uluru today! Are you quite ready for this amazing spectacle? We'll set up camp and take in our first Uluru sunset... note how the colours are ever-changing!
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 8
This morning we'll walk around the base of Uluru, and take some time to learn about the Aboriginal people in the area. We'll have lunch back at camp, and we'll have a free afternoon to explore the area at or leisure.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 9
This morning we get up quite early because we're going to hike the Valley of the Winds (otherwise known as ancient rock formations). We'll return to camp for lunch, and then head back to civilisation (e.g. bar and swimming pool!)
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 10
