Welcome aboard, your adventure starts here. If you are looking to go on a gap year in Australia you cannot go without seeing the beautiful Whitsunday Islands! This Learn to Sail programme has been specifically designed for backpackers on a WORKING HOLIDAY VISA.
You will most defiantly come away from this knowing your bow from your stern, or even your starboard from your Portside! Gapseekers LEARN TO SAIL WHITSUNDAY'S Programme will give you the chance to sail around the Whitsundays, have an almighty adventure and gain a certificate that is recognised all over the world. After completing this course you will have the opportunity to have an interview and maybe the chance to work on board our charter boats. This exciting opportunity provides you with the chance to work and train onboard.
Abel Point Marina in Airlie Beach at 9:30am is where your training programme will commence with our 6 day 5 night Commercial Crew Programme, It is here where you will live aboard our very own training yacht. Undertaking theory and practical application, demonstrating and putting into practise what you have learnt.
What's not included?
Training on our 6 day 5 nights Commercial Crew Certificate Course. You will live-aboard our Sail Training Vessel, undergoing theory and practical application, while sailing around the Whitsunday Islands.
Week 1 Inclusions:
During your sailing adventure you will be organised onto the yachts, where you will get to work with the rest of our crew, this lets you bolster your theory, from the previous week. In addition to this you will get to learn many other sides and aspects to working on Charter Yachts.
To get you in the role, you will be provided with 2 crew uniforms to wear on the two night tours. As part of this amazing trip, 6 nights backpacker accommodation in Airlie Beach to be used for nights off roster which will be a dormitory style share, giving you the perfect opportunity to interact and make new friends.
Your roster pattern will be 2 day/2 night sailing, 1 night Airlie Beach, 2 day/2 night sailing, and on it goes like this, that way it breaks the work up for you which lets you socialise, make friends and have a good time.

What to expect while on duty
The work on a Commercial Charter Yacht will keep and make you very fit, you will come away feeling healthy, tanned and energised, it can be hard work and a challenge too! Some of the exiting activities will be facilitating the yacht for use, assisting the guests once they arrive, cleaning, working the decks and assisting the cook with the day to day food preparations.What to pack
If you have larger luggage with you, you will be able to store it at your Airlie Beach Accommodation while you are out at sea having a big adventure.
There is a great chance of employment on this programme if there are positions available at the time. However employment on this programme is not guaranteed, if we cannot provide employment, participants can seek employment with other tourism operators working in the Whitsundays.
As part of this brilliant programme you will of course require, A WORKING HOLIDAY VISA before leaving the UK. To work in Australia you will also need a valid Australian Tax File Number (TFN), we suggest this is arranged before leaving home too.
