Go down deep and learn to dive and get PADI certified in the famous waters of the great barrier reef ! Get to see the glorious colours and sea life of reef all while gaining your internationally recognised diving certification.

After you have completed your theory and pool training located at our trendy Cairns Dive Centre, you will then head off with your new dive mates to live aboard our Dive Boat where we have a fully stocked and licences bar and kitchen ready for you to have your breakfast lunch and dinners and maybe even a nice ice cold beer to celebrate your dive being mindful not to have too much though as you will be up nice and early the next day for your fun dives and to complete your certification.

Gaining this qualification will enable you to go Scuba Diving in any part of the world and where better to learn than The Great Barrier Reef.

Over all this course lasts for 5 days of which 3 days and 2 nights you will be living on our live a board out on the open water!

All our day trip dive and snorkel sites are on The Great Barrier Reef’s Outer Reefs. These reefs (Norman, Saxon, and Hastings) are all part of the larger Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, but also benefit from healthier waters, no freshwater runoff, strict access, and more of the typical tropical reef critters we all have come to love!

  • Day 1 Classroom theory

9.00am pick-up from your city accommodation. It begins!! DSDD will provide a shuttle from your Cairns City accommodation

Classroom theory Once at Deep Sea you will meet your PADI Instructor, who will help you complete basic paperwork, and conduct a tour of our facilities

Dive medical to AS 4005.1 (if required). Once at Deep Sea you will meet your PADI Instructor, who will help you complete basic paperwork, and conduct a tour of our facilities. To ensure you don’t need a medical certificate, we collect basic medical information and check your BMI. Usually the rest of the morning is spent in the classroom, studying the basics of SCUBA theory.

Lunch is not included, however we do have various amenities close to our classrooms for the Lunch Break.

Dive equipment selection During the afternoon the fun really begins with your SCUBA induction! We have ample time to introduce you to the sensation and skills of diving. Our purpose built pool is ideal for slowly building up your SCUBA super powers!

Before we finish for the day, there’s just enough time for a treading water test, 10 minutes and then Day One is complete!

  • Day 2 Pool Training

9.00am pickup from your city accommodation

Pool training We jump straight into the pool on Day Two! If we didn’t complete it in Day One, it’s time for your swim test: a continuous 200m swim.

Then it’s time to don wetsuits and SCUBA equipment, and continue our skill sets underwater.

Lunch (not included) Again, lunch is not included, however we do have various amenities close to our classrooms.

At approximately 5:30pm our transfer bus will return you to your city accommodation.

* Please note on days one and two – meals, accommodation and Medical are not inclusive. You will also at some point in the first 2 days be required to swim 200m and tread water/float for 10 minutes.

  • Day 3 Great Barrier Reef

7.30am pickup from your city accommodation. This morning you’ll be collected bright and early at 7:30am to check in at the dive centre.

Transfer out to the reef aboard our day trip vessel and do your first 2 training dives. Once checked-in we will shuttle you to Cairns marina and our Day trip vessel SeaQuest.

During the 90min cruise to the Outer Reef your instructor will fully brief the itinerary of the day.

Arriving at the reef we ‘gear-up’, conduct our SCUBA safety procedures, and enter the water for our first Open Water training dive.

Lunch (included) Lunch is provided, a tropical buffet with cold cut meats, salads, and pasta.

Dive 2 sees us refining our skills both on the surface and underwater as well.

Now it’s time to get your snorkel skills up to scratch, slap on the sun tan lotion and explore the beautiful, shallow reef cays.

2:30pm, transfer to our Liveaboard vessel where you will spend the night.

Dinner, and accommodation is provided tonight, so its sit back, chill, watch the stars, and just take it all in. If the conditions are right, at night you may get the chance to take part in our

  • Day 4 Great Barrier Reef

Wake up, the Great Barrier Reef is outside your window! We promise, there’s nothing like an early morning coffee on a sun lounger with a view of the spectacular Outer Reefs to kick start your day. Enjoy a hot, chef prepared breakfast.

2 more training dives – For the final time we zip-up our wetsuits and get ready for 2 more training dives on the reef. Then, with a hand shake underwater, you’re a certified PADI SCUBA diver! With a worldwide recognised certification all your unexplored doors have just been flung wide open.

Lunch (included) Time for lunch! Aboard OceanQuest we provide hot, chef prepared lunches. Vegetarian and vegan options can be requested.

Afternoon pleasure dive

If your feeling brave, its now time to switch out the lights. Night Diving is a regular activity in SCUBA diving, and to be familiar with the water at this time of day is a huge benefit. It’s a magnificent experience, and when conducted safely, can be even more exciting than our previous dives. The Night Dive will be guided by a member of our dive team.

Hot dinners are provided onboard, a licensed bar is open till 10:30pm, but sleep well, more to explore tomorrow!

  • Day 5 Great Barrier Reef

Breakfast, 3 more fun dives

Last dive completed by 2.00pm.

Breakfast and lunch included.

5.00pm return to your accommodation.

On completion of your 4 certification dives you will get the opportunity to do one ‘fun dive’ (time permitting). If you wish to do more dives immediately after your course and experience the thrill of a night dive, choose the 5 day option.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Things you need to know about this tour

  • Price includes – EMC, Port Authority & fuel levy and $20 per person per day (subject to change without notice). Payable on day of travel only.
  • If you are enrolling in an entry-level recreational diving certificate you must, prior to commencing the training, complete and submit a self assessed medical declaration form: Medical Declaration for Entry-Level Certificate Divers. If it has been identified on the stated document that you: (a) have or have had any of the medical conditions mentioned in the medical declaration; or (b) are over 45 years old; or(c) have a body mass index over 30 AND a waist circumference greater than 102 cm for males and 88 cm for females; then the person must provide an English language dive medical certificate from a doctor, certifying that the person is medically fit to dive.
  • All persons undertaking training for an entry level recreational diving certificate must be at least a minimum of 12 years of age. If the diver is under the age of 18 years, parental or guardian consent should be obtained for the diver to undertake training for an entry-level recreational diving certificate.
  • Ability to pass a 200m swim, and 10min treading water test.
